The Farm Food Collaborative’s purchase of packaging materials for various specialty crop farmers will impact our community by relieving the cost of packaging which in turn allows the farmer to access a wider range of wholesale markets. This access allows the farmer to deliver fresh local produce to the community including area school districts as part of the Farm to School program. The purchase of cold-chain equipment will also allow farmers to maintain consistent and proper temperatures for fresh produce when delivering from their farm to buyers including school districts. These purchases will help ensure a safe product for consumption by individuals in our community, maintaining the freshness, nutritional value, and quality of the products from the farm to the consumer’s table. The purchase of packaging materials and cold-chain equipment will also allow for farmers to contribute to the local economy by having the proper wholesale packaging and ability to travel longer distances to deliver products. These sales result in more frequent sales for the farmers and in turn allow for the farm to employee more workers.
